  • Quick update: not up to much, just nannying (6:30am-8pm!, four different families), and waiting for school to start. Next semester is going to be great because it's the first time that I will actually be able to choose classes that I want to take, instead of what is required of me to fulfill requirements. I'm thinking of Photography, and Global Conflicts.

To be quite honest however, I'm kind of hoping for another free trial of Xanga Premium, so I can get an archive and then close down this site. I've definitely moved on to a different phase of my life, and there's no sense in having this around anymore. Waste of bandwith or something like that :)

  • So today the boys' mom and myself were driving down the main driveway, and Marley saw us coming in and got up in his "I'm important" stance: sitting, alert, and chest puffed out. The boys' mom started petting him through the window, and then says "Hey, what's in your mouth?" There was something sticking out. Then she says "oh my gosh, it has hair, I think he has a mouse." I jumped out of the car and pried open his jaws since he wouldn't drop it, and sure enough, he had a mouse! Marley caught a mouse! How does a golden retriever do that? He was playing with it, and we think it held it in his mouth so long it suffocated. It was kinda comical though, because the tail was sticking out like a cigarette or something.

love Marley, and he really has the best disposition for a family dog, but he just has some gross habits. Eating poop (which there is lots of because horses pass by us daily), rolling in dead animals, eating mice...yuck.

This week the two babies I babysit for are turning one. It has been such a treat watching them grow and develop. One of them is pointing at objects and knows a tiny bit of sign language (please, help, more, done), the other recognizes places and throws a fit if he doesn't get to go to the ones he recognizes. Today I realized that he has the process of getting dressed down too--as soon as I picked up a pair of socks, he stuck out his foot, and then the other. Both are on the verge of walking, taking one or two steps before falling down. Both recognize me enough that when they see me, they smile and crawl/reach towards me to give me a "hug." As much as I love watching kids grow and develop, you'd think I want to go into pediatrics, but that is far from the case. I don't want to have to deal with parents, and rarely do you ever see kids happy about being at a doctor's office.

Although I must say, the ED that I work at has done a great job at making our urgent care section extremely kid friendly. The walls are painted like a jungle, and each of the kids' rooms have a flat screen tv and dvd player so they can watch movies while they wait...plus popsicles and pinwheels :)
